Cadillac Deville DTS

Cadillac Deville DTS

This is the production version of the car that we originally developed in 1993-94, it rolled out as a 2000 model that is still in production. It has been used in all types of livery applications as well as the presidential limo and even a hearse!

Another sketch that led to the final theme that would become the 2000 Deville. We lost a battle with engineering to build the car as a six light configuration but won adding an additional length to the wheelbase from 112.7 to 115.6 inches. Cadillac marketing were worried that the Deville, which cost less than the Seville offered a visually better value then than of the Seville. Arguably, the car needed these adjustments to make a statement of luxury and for the package simply to work.

Here is an exploratory sketch of the Deville early into the sketch phase of the program. Dennis Little was chief of the Cadillac studio and he encouraged to us to "stretch" our design ideas. I had recommended in my sketches and clay model; vertical LED tail lamps that wrapped into the quarter panels for a fresh appearance, naturally, it was too much for the execs and now LED's and deep wrap around lamps are currently in vogue. I later suggested these ideas to Hyundai as a consultant...

My original clay model had the dual headlamp stack as indicated in this sketch.Naturally the design evolved into a more traditional Cadillac statement.
